How Innefu Exposed a Scam in Hours: The Scammer That Picked the Wrong Target

On a seemingly ordinary day, a few individuals outside Innefu received emails from what looked like came from our HR department. The email from hrinnefulabs@gmail.com offered them a job at Innefu Labs… for a fee.

It was a Scam.

One that mimicked our hiring process and brand name to trick people into transferring money. But this wasn’t just any scam, it was a challenge directed at a company trusted to secure nations, safeguard enterprises, and expose deception across digital domains.

The Email That Triggered an Investigation

Scammer's Email to Candidate

As soon as the fraudulent email came to our notice, Team Innefu swung into action. Within minutes, our experts began investigating the origins of the impersonation attempt.

This wasn’t the first scam of its kind. But it was personal, because it targeted our identity and misled potential candidates using our name.

And we weren’t about to let that slide.

Tracing the Digital Footprint

Using just the email ID, our internal investigative team leveraged Innefu’s proprietary tools, to begin pulling the digital thread.

Within a couple of hours, we were able to identify:

  • The mobile number linked to the email address
  • The IP address, exact location and other information of the individual behind it

hacker report

What may seem like a daunting trace for many was a routine investigative workflow for our team, powered by automation, data intelligence, and years of experience in national and cyber security.

“We were able to map the scammer’s entire digital trail using nothing more than an email address. That’s the power of AI-assisted intelligence when combined with human expertise.” – Manuj Kumar Pandey, Lead OSINT Investigator, Innefu Labs

The Confrontation

Armed with evidence, our team directly contacted the number linked to the scammer.

Initially, the person denied all involvement. But when presented with evidence, the scammer confessed. What followed was an apology.

Apology from Scammer

It wasn’t just an admission of guilt. It was a quiet win for truth, technology, and swift action. He also apologized to all the candidates he contacted for this scam.

“Our hiring process never involves asking for any kind of payment. We urge candidates to apply only through official Innefu channels and be vigilant against fraudulent outreach.” – Deepak Singh, HR Head, Innefu Labs

Stay Alert. Stay Secure.

If you ever receive an offer letter or communication claiming to be from Innefu, please ensure it comes from an official domain i.e., “@innefu.com”.

We never ask for money during our recruitment process, or at any stage of it.

“Every incident like this reinforces why we do what we do. Cyber deception is getting more sophisticated, but so are the tools and teams built to stop it. Our mission has always been to stay one step ahead of the threat, and this incident proves that.”Mr. Tarun Wig, Co-founder & CEO, Innefu Labs

As we move forward, incidents like these remind us that digital vigilance is a shared responsibility. Whether you’re a candidate, a customer, or just someone browsing online, stay alert, verify sources, and never hesitate to question what doesn’t feel right.
